I checked out Philly Car Share a few months ago. And even though there is a car spot about a block from my house. It doesn’t seem economical.

You pay a monthly membership fee.
Then you pay hourly usage for the car + mileage usage.

Basically, when I need a car, that’s too constraining and too expensive. It ends up being cheaper to rent a car from Hertz, who gives me frequent flyer miles and a few other perks.
On weekends an econo car is like $40 for the weekend with unlimited miles.

But that’s my situation. I need a car 1 or 2 weekends a month, which is not an option with carshare.

If you need a car a couple hours a few times a month, it might work for you.

A friend of mine told me about an adventure of his once. He was driving in his truck with a friend and they were both wasted (i forget on what substances). Up ahead they see a police car in the road, stopping everyone as they go bye.

Well…. Here is a thought. We just don’t know. The truth is that education is expensive. It’s the kind of expensive that both the Republicans and Democrats shy away from funding sufficiently. If we look at the Regan through Clinton years it’s fairly clear that the one thing our Government is dedicated to is military spending (yeah yeah UD… get it off your tits). There seems to be no partisan argument on increasing military spending. Both parties do it every year.

Regardless of opinion the numbers do not lie when it comes to discretionary spending. Military spending increases from 1970 to now with more than adequate compensation for inflation. Education spending on k-12 is down 20% per student when inflation is calculated from 1970. That’s shameful.

When we graduated we had to know far more than our parents did when they gradated high school. Our children will have to know far more than us when they graduate. It’s just the nature of science and technology. Can we afford to allow our educational funding to slip further?
