As long as I’ve been a student of Middle East history and politics, I’ve noticed that those of us on the Left have an automatic negative reaction to the New York Times’ Thomas L. Friedman. He’s the guy whose name invokes sighs and rolls of the eyes. But why? I have to confess, I never really went along with the knee-jerk Friedman critiques because I never actually *read* any of his articles. I don’t regularly read the New York Times.
At work today someone mentioned to me, feeling sorry for the victims, “Hewlett-Packard fired 14,500 people”.
I can’t help but wonder why more people didn’t mention the 25,000 civilians who were killed in Iraq, instead of getting a piece of that “iraqi freedom.”
I’ve noticed a trend. A new “life’s little annoyance” that I’m taking a stand against. Perhaps it only happens in Chesterbrook where I work. But quarters seem to be worth more than $0.25. Just today I went to Genardis to get Jello (which sucks btw) and i paid the total was 13.22. But Genardis uses a change dispenser. I’m merely human, but when I used to operate a cash register, this scenario would dictate I return 3 pennies and 3 quarters. 3 is a nice number. It’s the holy trinity, it’s how many balls i have. It’s nice. but instead this vile contraption returned 2 quarters 3 pennies, 2 dimes and a nickel.
Well I had enough. I demanded that the cashier exchange those dimes and a nickel for a quarter. And the woman took issue. “I can’t open the drawer again.”
I said, “I’ll wait”
she said, “It’s the right amount? right”
I said, “in numbers, yes, in number of coins no. I’m sorry, but I don’t like extra change”
she gave.
It’s not just our mechanized overlords either. I went to wendy’s last week and the woman behind the counter manually gave me this 2 dimes and nickel breakdown of the 3rd quarter.
THese aren’t new businesses they’ve been there a while. Can’t they anticipate the quarter demand?
Well, I’m not taking dimes anymore!
I’ll leave to LittlePo. She has a much nicer writing style than me when it comes to this sort of thing, and has written a nice piece on the blog worlds sure to be wide spread rant: Bush’s attitude towards the kyoto protocol.
…Are infused with crack, i’m sure. How else can you explain my complete addiction to them. I forgot to bring one to work today, and I swear i’m showing signs of withdrawal.
i’ve got the itch, and i can’t concentrate, and my right lower eyelid is twitching.
The company cafeteria is closed, but even if it were open, i’d never buy those cookies, they just aren’t the same.

The author of this post and I decided sometime last year that Silvio Berlusconi, President of Italy, was our favorite crazy politician. Yes, he’s right wing, and that’s bad for Italy. Too bad
But we have the same problem, and our right-wing turd isn’t funny, he’s just dumb and his decisions get civilians killed, lots of them… and that’s bad for the world.
Here’re some Berlusconi highlights:
He once said that the reason he was going bald is because his brain’s too big and it’s pushing out the hair follicles on his head.
At an EU summit last summer, there was a photo-op. Various EU heads of state and finance ministers were present. While they were all posing for the group shot, Berlusconi put bunny ears on Spain’s finance minister.
Last year the Italian Communist Party hald it’s convention in Rome. Berlusconi was opposed to Rome’s hosting the convention. When asked why by a journalist, Berlusconi said, “Because communists eat babies.”. That’s fukn hilarious… and true. I had one on a panino a few minutes ago for lunch.

Against Berlusconi… Beppe Grillo’s blog now also in English
Beppe Grillo is a top Italian comic, famous for being politically outspoken in his shows. He is considered the Italian Michael Moore. Expelled from Italian TV (under Italian premier Berlusconi’s control), he created a popular blog, where he writes his opinions every day. Grillo’s blog is now also in English language: http://www.beppegrillo.it/eng/

I can’t be bothered with anything these days, but such is life. I don’t care. So it goes. More or less nothing seems worth thinking about. I’ve just been hanging out waiting for something to happen, but that’s how it is.
