Debate

Well, the first of 3… err i mean 2 debates is tonight. I wonder what the headlines will be tomorrow. I’m sure some fumble that either Kerry or Bush made, that has little impact on how fit they are to run the country. Maybe it will even be about Kerry’s makeup.

Daily Show Viewers more educated than O’Rielly Factor

So apparently Bill O’Rielly had a mild disagreement with John Stewart and Commedy Central, saying that its scary that a bunch of “stoned slackers” slackers who watch the Daily Show will be able to vote.

Comedy Central did some “research” and found that viewers of the Daily show were more likely to have a higher level of education than those of O’Rielly’s show, and were also more likely to answer political questions correctly.

Thats no surprise since the daily show’s theme is taking actual events and making fun of them, while the O’Rielly show’s theme is ignoring actual events, and making up alternate realities.

Comedy Central refutes O’Reilly’s claim

The ‘Burbs are bad for your health

I always knew something about the suburbs gave me an uneasy feeling. Hey, i just noticed that “the ‘burbs” is short for “the suburbs” which in turn is short of “the suburban area”

Mad 4 Mex Sucks

cactus.pngThere’s this restaurant between Drexel and UPenn called Mad 4 Mex. Its your basic mexican on a college campus type restaurant, and when I went to school, it was pretty decent.

However, after being there tonight and a couple times in the last year, i’m sad to say it sucks major ass now. The chicken wings tasted like the meat was stale, if thats possible. My Chicken Wrap tasted the same, and the nachos were below par. Not only that, but the interesting mix of 80s rock and obscure 80s punk that they used to play was replaced with, and I kid you not, the entire Journey’s greatest hits album. Thats right, i heard Journey the whole time I was there. To make things worse, I think i’m the only one who actually knew it was journey in the whole restaurant- The college kids who still act like that place is the bomb are too young and my colleagues were all from Taiwan.

Living near two universities makes me really hate how local restaurants get away with peddling crap to the college kids, who don’t know any better, and don’t care too much anyway cause their parents bought them all iPods for back to school (i swear 1 in 8 people has one at UPenn) I guess its this strange market dynamic that contributed to the fall of Mad 4 Mex. (and a certain person I know who stole half of their cool wooden and leather menus probably didn’t help either)

Eenie Meenie Myenie Mo

bush_kerry_nature_203.jpg

So its time to start accepting it. Either George W. Bush or John F. Kerry is going to be our presedent next year. I’ve personally felt like neither of them would be my president. This campaign season has been so filled with mud, and way too lacking in straight talk about what each candidate believes in. Here is a an article with highlights from Bush and Kerry’s answers to 15 questions from Nature magazine. They’re not all tree-hugger questions, but they are all science or enviornment related.

By the way, the begiinning of this post wasn’t meant to disenfranchise 3rd party voters (although, they are already disenfranchised in this country) just a sort of statistal likelyhood. If your voting for someone else, more power to you (I myself am still undecided weather to vote 3rd party or not)

Its one thing that 3rd party candidates aren’t always in the spotlite, having less money and all, but how hard would it have been for Nature magazine to send this questions to Nader (and that libertarian guy, whatever his name is), also? It wasn’t an interview, they just wrote their responses and sent them to the magazine.

The price of Justice

Am I going too far? Or not far enough? I’m not really sure any more. In this grey world of undefined boundaries, who’s to say what is right and what is wrong?

I submit this little story. and you can comment on whether I went to far or not far enough?

Not that anyone should be surprised, but I’ve got to keep fighting the good fight. They’ve finally found the records that prove Bush was AWOL in 1972.

The Liberal Media… yeah

I never saw Three Kings, but apparently its got an anti-war sentiment, and Warner is preventing the movie from being released on DVD until after the elections.

I just saw The Corporation, which features Noam Chomsky and others talking about how a corporation’s number one priority is to make value for its shareholders, at all costs. It then goes on to show some of the atrocities committed while pursuing that objective. (Such as privatizing the water of some small country and getting the government to make it illegal to catch rain water.)

As if that weren’t bad enough, now it seems they only stray from that objective in order to manipulate the world. I was kind of hoping more companies would be like Interface Carpets (featured in the documentary) who have decided to put sustainability as a priority, not world domination.
