Well, I think i would rather be killed than live life in prison. But then again, I’m not the type to go on a killing spree of “random” people either. So I’m really not the target demographic.

I don’t think that the state should be killing people though. Not unless we get some super sci-fi sh$t that can prove 100% guilt.
It’s not that I think the Death Penalty is wrong. I just don’t think that our system is capable of using it fairly. There fore it should not be used.

Well, personaly, I think it was inapropriate. Lauren Hill is honest with her opinions but she is not very respectful. I think one would find her just as ireverantand confrontational in person as she is in public apearance….

Personaly I preffer inteligent conversation and respectful debate with a head nod to the value of public protest.

Perhaps I was unclear, My point was that her actions got the issue talked about more. There was all this hubbub a year ago about the Catholic church covering up and protecting priests. Since that time the official stance of the church has been , in my opinion, reckless and irresponsible. And it was quietly fading from the public discussion. This brought attention to the fact that there was no real progress in the church from preventing this action in the future.

I got your point and I disagree. If disrepect of others helps more than it hurts or gets others to change their policies because of public outcry. Then it is good and healthy (my opinion).
And yes I do agree with her and i like the idea of the Catholic church being “embarrased” not slandered. they were not slandered. Slander, according to dictionary.com is

” 1. Law. Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person’s reputation.
2. A false and malicious statement or report about someone.
”

And her quote in that story is “”God has been a witness to the corruption of his leadership, of the exploitation and abuses … by the clergy,”
which has been admitted to in the US legal proceedings and settlements. (exploitation of children at least).

yes, i’ve had the guilty thought of voting for dean, even if a third candidate that i like happens to run. I haven’t decided yet what I will do.

sometimes i think it would be cool if bush stole this election too, and generated more anger, and got more people in action and paying attention. Maybe Mexico and Canada would even invade.

I just hope that we don’t get someone who calls themself a democrat in office and then a huge chunk of the dissident population will go back to their armchairs and ignore the country.

Comprimise?

i think that a two party system has less comprimise than, say a 4 party system.

in a two party system, Congress only has two sides that have to compromise on an issue. with 4, there were be more sides to listen too and more dissagreements, and more compromises. You do need compromise to govern this many people. but the compromise should happen between the people who represent us, not at the election booth (or are they terminals now?)
